Southern Inspired Wedding With A Vintage Glam | Middletown, New York

Our beautiful wedding took place in one of the most peaceful settings in all of New York, though I may be a bit biased as this stunning farmhouse was my husbands’ late grandmother’s home. The first day my husband brought me to visit his family he shared with me his love and fond memories of her and how her home once was full of laughter, the greatest of joy and a place you could find her tending to her garden. Everyone would gather at her house and spend time together sharing stories, a good laugh and even listen to her advice if she had something to say.  I can remember walking into her house for the very first time as it had sat empty for a couples years after her passing, I found myself in tears.  It was like the house was literary left as if she would be returning any minute but the sad reality she wasn’t. As we walked into the home and my husband Eric began telling stories and sharing memories, I grew an unexpected love for this home. I love this little home because it was not only something that brought my husband greatest joy but seeing his face as he showed me each room made me realized how attached he was to the memories in this home. How each room shared a story of happier times with a family that once shared their love and support for one another.  Holiday gathering, to birthday parties, swimming at the swimming pool, even Thanksgiving dinner.  This house was more than just a house; it was home.  I found myself exploring each room mesmerized by everything in sight. It was like walking into a time capsule. Furniture, paintings, books and even photographs made it feel like you had taken a step back into the 1900s.  Most of you know how obsessed I am with antiques and old homes so being able to just take in the beauty with my own eyes was like living a dream.  Maybe that is why I felt such a huge connection to the home and found it to be so peaceful.

The day my husband asked for my hand in marriage was very simple, nothing fancy, not down on one knee in a romantic restaurant or in front of a crowd of people. It happens on 4th of July as we were leaving his grandmother’s house to head out to join the festivities for the evening when we drove by the Big House. The main house on the farm that once was the summer home of Eric’s great-grandparents.  We both looked at the same direction at the same thing, and we both blurted out loud at the same time “That would be a good place to get married.”  I knew the day my husband, and I met we would get married, I would have run off and got married to him the next day, but we only waited four months before tying the knot the first time.  At that moment we both looked at each other and basically smiled. He didn’t have to ask, and he didn’t have to say much else, but we knew that this meant we were getting married.  To me, it was the perfect moment and a memory that many cannot say they have had. Later one he did purpose again with a ring at our house once we return home from our vacation to New York.

On our one year anniversary of being married, we tied the knot in front all of our close family and friends with a small wedding.  The day was beautiful, perfect weather, perfect scenery, perfect location perfect everything.  Our wedding was one of the gorgeous weddings I had ever witness and though again I may be biased, it indeed was one of the best in my books.  October 7th, 2017 is a day I will never be able to forget. It symbolized a marriage of love, support, encouragement, trust and most of all bound that is unbreakable.

What I loved the most about our wedding day was the fact we were able to bring elements to our wedding that were from the area of the house. Items that meant something to each of us and had a true meaning.  The blue and white china was something his grandmother collected and had several pieces of. We were very blessed to have the opportunity to have a few of those pieces and I have made it my passion to collect more pieces to create our own heirloom china set for our china hutch at home. We decided that it would make a great fit for our wedding as well so we were able to use some of those pieces to truly bring some of those beloved elements into our special day remembering her memory as we carried on with our day.  The buffet table I found at a local dealer and refinished to use for our sweets/cake table. Several of the glasses we used were also collected from vintage shops and a good majority of all the decor was purchased second hand or found at Home Goods to bring to life the vision of our wedding day.  Every bit was perfect, and I love how this day was everything I had ever dreamed of.  We were even able to find a vintage car, which by the way is for sale if anyone wants to purchase it!

A Sisters Bound | Fredericksburg Virginia Family Photographer

It’s rare to see these two love on one another, but I know deep down they truly do love each other more than they are willing to admit.  Sisters are the best to have.  I wouldn’t know but I could only take a guest. Growing up I had a younger brother. He was the most annoying brother ever. He never wanted to play dress up, play baby dolls with me or even do what I wanted him to do.  So I would beat him up and make fun of him. Until one day he got to be bigger than me and that didn’t work out too well.  We fault all the time, and even now as two adults we don’t always seem eye to eye with most things in life, but we know deep down in our hearts we still love one another.  I can only hope my two daughters will find a common ground at some point in their life to put aside their differences because one refuses to play barbies while the other one would prefer to play dollhouse… Such simple arguments but before you know it they’ll be fighting over clothes, shoes, makeup, and god only knows… boys!  While they are still young I will focus them to wear pretty clothes they won’t ever wear again and make them pose like they love and adore each other because after all, they are sisters.  And Sisters are built-in friends who you can count on and rely on when things are hard.  Best of all they are the ones you can share your secrets with and pray they don’t blurt them out over dinner.
